The Village of Dolton’s Mayor Jason House was elected on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, after receiving 95% of the vote against the incumbent. Prior to his election as Mayor, House served as a Village of Dolton Trustee for eight years. Since House has been sworn in as Mayor, the Village has been able to make strides to establish and re-establish itself.
House said that one year in, he and his administration have made great leaps, they have a lot more to go and a great team of people who will get the Village of Dolton there.
“We are a community that always continued to work to improve ourselves and provide a safe and equitable place for our community,” House said.
The Village of Dolton acquired the childhood home of Pope Leo XIV. House said it is something that both he and the community are very excited about. He said they are excited about the opportunities that will come, as a result of the Village acquiring the home.
He said people have come from all over the world to see the house and the community. The Village’s team has done a fantastic job of being hospitable and ensuring the tours happen efficiently and safely, said House.
Additionally, there has been a concerted effort to ensure that the people who currently live on the block where the home is located are not greatly interrupted by the visitors and the tours. House said the planning and preservation committee will allow the Village to further enhance the experience of the visitors who come to view the house.
Mayor House said the Village’s books have been codified, which is a first in more than 40 years. He said it was the result of the hard work of the Village’s Clerk Alison Key. The codification, along with a link being accessible online, the Village is working toward transparency. The Village is also improving its online and social media presence in accordance with House’s goal to make the Village more transparent.
“Given our past, that transparency is even more necessary to re-establish the public trust,” he said. He added that the Village has truly demonstrated what can happen when all the parties share a common goal for transparency and want to work toward it together.
Mayor House said that when he ran his campaign, the slogan was “changing the narrative and vision of Dolton.” He said that, coming from the Village’s history of past administrations, he and the team that he ran on, the people of Dolton, were not being portrayed with the grace and elegance that the community and the stakeholders have.
Dolton has a wide range of people in its community, from hard working class who take care of their families and take pride in it, to an affluent part of its community who demonstrate the white-collar worker. He said because of that diversity in the kind of people who reside in the Village, Dolton is the perfect landing spot for people to come and have a good quality of life.
“We want to make sure we’re demonstrating that we can do all responsibly,” he said. “I think we’ve turned the corner, had a lot of successes. We look to enhance that and keep growing.”
House said his administration has been in contact with restaurants who are looking to break ground in the Village. He said that he expects more of the seeds of economic development that have been planted during his first year will come in the next couple of years.
He said that they have enhanced public safety by hiring Jeff Chapman as the new police chief. House said that Chapman is outstanding, his team’s presence has been felt, and the Village has seen a drastic improvement in its public safety. He said that the goal is to continue to enhance the Village’s public safety presence so people will know that Dolton is a safe place to be.
Mayor House said the residents are informed and are supportive of him and his administration. He said that the residents hold him and his administration accountable. Having that kind of constituency ensures that his administration is pushing to be the best. As a result, the community and House’s administration can come together and have great moments.
